From the north, Sopot borders on Gdynia, a modern port city whose inhabitants are among the happiest in Poland.
Gdynia is one of the youngest cities in Poland, it is part of the Tricity agglomeration and serves as an important port on the Baltic coast. The plan to transform a small fishing village into an important port appeared in the interwar period, when the situation in Gdańsk was uncertain for the Polish authorities.
